leaving for hong kong next week

May 29th, 2008

i am leaving for hong kong next week, as per title. i look forward to walking around in the city, soaking in the impressions, the noise, the smells, the sights, the lights.

a strange sensation has been keeping me company for the last few days. i have been oddly obsessed with my visit to hong kong, looking much forward to it. i’m expressing an attachment for the place that i know i have, although i usually never experience it in such a way (mostly because travel has become such a necessary evil for me). i am imagining myself in hong kong from time to time, wandering around in the streets, wondering who to contact, what conversations i will be having. perhaps hong kong also allows me to be a more whole self, where i am not only in academia, but where i can indulge all parts of my identity, culinary and culturally. :-)

book and sword : gratitude and revenge

is the first novel written by Jin Yong. The protagonist is Chan Ka Lok, who is the leader of the Red Flower Society. The book title refers to Ka Lok being famous for being well-versed in culture and martial arts, but also for having to make a difficult ethical decision. My father named me and my brother after him.

The subtitle is from a poem Desiderata
