safe travel

May 22nd, 2008

My brother Lokhin will soon be traveling to Hong Kong. Instead of going there for a holiday, he will start to work permanently there, which always has been a big dream of his. I’m happy he got this chance and hope he will make the best out of it.

Starting a new chapter of your life in a not-quite-familiar place requires courage and a willingness to tread outside of your comfort zone. To be able to initiate that is commendable. In order to continually make the most out of this journey, one also has to be willing to be open to new experiences, to learn, and at the same time, not to give in to despair if everybody else seems to have such an easy time doing something you just can’t quite grasp, whether it is the language, social norms, work practices. It also requires a strong sense of your self, to find a balance between being open and learning from new experiences, but at the same time remind yourself of who you are, what your principles are, and that while most of the things others say might be right, you have your own opinion as well. Learn from others but don’t sell yourself short. Listening and being open to others, while continually be sensitive to listening to yourself. It’s not easy, but it’s what you wanted, and it’s what will help you make a better person – and that’s what matters in the end.

Wish you a safe journey.
