barack obama and hillary clinton when they were still young. there is a sense of .. hope .. and carefree-ness that i like so much about this picture.

what would they have talked about on a lazy summer afternoon, if they came across each other on campus, sipping on a coffee?

a good article on their lives before they entered the national spotlights talks about how they both went to law school, and how they both not prefer to talk about it. there is a larger question in political theory about how young people grow up, how they choose to (or choose not to) engage in politics. the wonderful dean of my school has a new book out (co-authored) on this question of ‘a new engagement‘. what is our current generation doing? what choices are they making? do we empower them to make choices? how will this affect how we trust each other? how will this affect the way they feel they can make a difference? how will we feel a few years down the line, when it’s our turn to make a difference? what will we do then?
