hiatus

temporary hiatus. re-thinking the role of this blog.

plus internet at my new place is ridiculously expensive – i only have the ‘choice’ of comcast and it costs a whopping $60 bucks a month (modem rental excluded!). hello, i thought i live in the US, the paradigm of a free market system? can we get some competition in the last mile market, please? i paid these prices back in 1996 in amsterdam when cable broadband was brand new, a novelty and a premium.

so instead of paying comcast sixty bucks, my friend suggested i might as well go to the cafe around the door everyday and get a cup of tea for two bucks, and enjoy the free wifi. less convenient, but hey, i get a cup of tea for it. plus 30 times 2 (e.g. every day a month) equals exactly 60 (and a cup of tea isn’t even two bucks).

    Hey Lok,

Hoe gaat ie?

    Keep in touch!! Groetjes, Marni

which tea place? the green one? i swung by it on the way out the other day… pretty nifty. oh wait. but i think their tea is more than two bucks. hehe…

i don’t know what is a ‘reasonable’ price for service anymore. i keep expecting things to be cheaper… like cell phone service, internet service, cable service. but perhaps because we still rely so much on ‘em.

    see u soon la…

verizon is now offering wha seems to be a fiber-optic-based connection for 29.99 a month … if you can get verizon and you don’t have the comcast monopoly in your area.

The book title refers to Ka Lok being famous for being well-versed in culture and martial arts, but also for having to make a difficult ethical decision. My father named me and my brother after him.

The subtitle is from a poem Desiderata
