listening to ‘in search of a sunrise’

Search of Sunrise, Vol. 1

have been on a trance-binge ever since I got back from Miami. re-listening some classics, reliving some memories. ‘local’ artists that are global, like Tiesto, take on a very different meaning when you are abroad, especially when local in this sense is dutch – a group of people not exceeding 16 million, a language not spoken very much worldwide, even though the music is universal. i remember a slightly similar experience listening to cantopop while i was in taiwan. the possibility of an intense private moment, in an otherwise public setting; saying ‘hoi hoestie’ when only him and you understand dutch. (the subsequent look on his face when it comes from this chinese-looking guy: is it bad to find small, self-indulgent, pleasures in these wtf induced moments?)

The book title refers to Ka Lok being famous for being well-versed in culture and martial arts, but also for having to make a difficult ethical decision. My father named me and my brother after him.

The subtitle is from a poem Desiderata
