EastSouthWestNorth: Li Ao’s Speech at Beijing University
But the most important level of liberalism is that if you can’t open up your heart, then you are stuck. Therefore, I think the liberation of the heart is important. This is all about your own problems. If you have not opened yourself up, then you will always be stuck. Therefore, I say that nobody wants to be a true liberal, because it is too difficult and painful. It requires a high level of culture to become a liberal. That is why one part of liberalism requires one to seek within oneself and I would know if I succeeded or not.
Fascinating speech by Li Ao, held at Beijing University. Sending shockwaves through high society in China currently.

i loved the full text. it is especially meaningful, now that i’m frustrated with the whole social scientific argument going on in one of my classes. if you cannot count things, they do not exist for certain people. so true.
