EastSouthWestNorth: Li Ao’s Speech at Beijing University

But the most important level of liberalism is that if you can’t open up your heart, then you are stuck. Therefore, I think the liberation of the heart is important. This is all about your own problems. If you have not opened yourself up, then you will always be stuck. Therefore, I say that nobody wants to be a true liberal, because it is too difficult and painful. It requires a high level of culture to become a liberal. That is why one part of liberalism requires one to seek within oneself and I would know if I succeeded or not.

Fascinating speech by Li Ao, held at Beijing University. Sending shockwaves through high society in China currently.
