online word processors

September 18th, 2005

For those who write: there have been quite a few web applications out there now that allows us to write and share our documents in a simple and secure way online. I introduce you the three I find most promising.

Writely is an interesting application using Ajax technology. In practical terms, it allows simple and secure web document sharing. One can use it as an online word processor, while deciding who exactly can read and write that document. Currently in beta, free and with little restrictions.

Another alternative is jot. Based on the concept of a wiki, it also allows collaborative document writing. I am using this to write, edit and revise proposals and meeting notes. I can invite other users to take a look at my proposals and help me revise it; it will automatically save revisions for rollback. It will search, sort and share for you. Currently investing the most time in using this.

The third alternative I want to show you is backpack. This is an application (also based on Ajax) that empowers projects by combining to-do lists, notes, images, attachments and bodies of texts; as with the others, it allows you to share these projects with others. Very userfriendly and great interface. For the more professional or business oriented, there is also basecamp.

Voo2do is even better than backpack at least it’s not a restricted-paid service :)

book and sword : gratitude and revenge

is the first novel written by Jin Yong. The protagonist is Chan Ka Lok, who is the leader of the Red Flower Society. The book title refers to Ka Lok being famous for being well-versed in culture and martial arts, but also for having to make a difficult ethical decision. My father named me and my brother after him.

The subtitle is from a poem Desiderata
